GET PREPARED FOR HURRICANE SEASON
Learn how to prepare for hurricane season with the help of Advanced Air Systems. The tips listed below can help you before hurricane season, in the hours before a storm, and after the hurricane has passed.
Before Hurricane Season
Hours Before the Storm Is Scheduled to Hit
Right Before the Storm
After Power Has Been Restored Following the Storm
- Schedule an inspection and maintenance for your air-conditioning system to ensure there are no safety hazards, like loose wires, and that your system is running properly
- Check that your outdoor unit is secured to the concrete slab. A hurricane-rated concrete slab with hurricane straps can withstand winds up to 170 MPH. An unsecured slab can become a 200 lb projectile in a storm
- Have a surge protector installed by your air-conditioning or electrical contractor or utility provider. This is good for all major household appliances
- Trim large tree branches that are near your air conditioner, as these could break off in high winds and damage the unit
- Walk around your home's exterior to secure all loose items, including patio furniture and children's toys. In high winds, they could become flying projectiles that cause damage to your home or air conditioner.
Hours Before the Storm Is Scheduled to Hit
- Lower your thermostat a few degrees to help keep your home cooler during the storm
Right Before the Storm
